Abkhazia

In accordance with the current law of the Republic of Abkhazia "On Trademarks, Service Marks, and Appellations of Origin of Goods," the registration of trademarks is carried out by the State Committee of the Republic of Abkhazia for Standards, Consumer, and Technical Supervision.

Requirements

Only a legal entity or an individual entrepreneur has the right to register a trademark. The application for trademark registration is submitted to the Patent Office of Abkhazia. Foreign applicants are required to have a local patent attorney.

Procedure

The submission of an application for registration to the Patent Office of the Republic of Abkhazia and the completion of the formal examination takes approximately one month. The substantive examination takes between three to six months. The decision to register the trademark and the issuance of the certificate is completed within one month.

Duration

Trademark registration in Abkhazia is valid for five years from the date of application submission. This period can be extended for subsequent five-year terms an unlimited number of times, provided the appropriate fee is paid and a petition is submitted to the Office.

Methods

NATIONAL REGISTRATION: If you just want to register your Trademark in one country, it is sufficient to apply for a national registration at the local trademark office.

Duly note, if the trademark has not been used within 3 years from registration or has not been used later for a continuous period of 3 years, it may be subject to cancellation.
